About PDR Engineers Cairns
In March 2017, PDR Engineers (PDR) joined SMEC, enhancing PDR’s capabilities and strengthening SMEC’s presence in northern Australia.
The combined footprint of SMEC and PDR in northern Australia establishes a regional network of offices in Cairns, Townsville and Darwin. Together, PDR and SMEC have broad experience across a range of sectors including resources engineering, public infrastructure, community structures, water, sewerage, roads, drainage and other municipal infrastructure. PDR’s local expertise, combined with SMEC’s extensive capabilities, will ensure the continued advancement of engineering excellence in the region.
PDR is a professional consultancy providing structural, civil and geotechnical engineering services. It was established in 1999 by Peter De Roma (experienced in civil/structural design and construction of municipal infrastructure) and Dr Terry Medhurst (focused on geotechnical engineering and design in mining and civil projects) who continue to run the business. Today, PDR is one of the largest employers of professional engineers in Cairns, with approximately 200 years of combined experience.
We have a long history in the provision of public infrastructure including community structures, water, sewerage, roads, drainage and other municipal infrastructure in the Torres Strait, Cape region and Cairns. In the resources sector, PDR provides services to a range of clients that include most of the major mining companies with direct experience in many projects across Australia and the Asia Pacific Region. These services include feasibility studies, geotechnical mine design, mine waste management and infrastructure projects.
SMEC’s origins date back to the iconic Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Scheme in 1949. Today SMEC is consistently recognised for technical excellence and design innovation by the world’s leading engineering bodies. Striving to deliver service excellence across a range of industry sectors, SMEC has developed and refined a core service offering covering the lifecycle of a project. SMEC’s projects help to generate economic wealth and provide essential infrastructure services in some of the world’s fastest growing economies. See more at http://www.smec.com.
